Photo A Day 2012 – 01/27/2012

The moon was very sharp and pretty on a late dusk sky in Tokyo last night. Of course, all I had was my 35mm lens sooo it’s tiny :)

Tamachi station at night.

Yes. Sometimes even I take the stereotypical red lantern hanging outside an izakaya (japanese bar) at night too.

I got the first ever color film that has ever been shot with that 100 year old Kodak No.1 Pocket Automatic that I posted a few weeks back. When I got the camera there was B&W film from around 1955 in there so I can be pretty sure no color film has ever been shot with that camera.

The end result? Pretty damn good!!

There’s some light leak happening in the upper left but overall, it turned out pretty damn sharp!

And for shooting blind, I framed this pretty good huh? :)

Overall I continue to be impressed with this little camera. Only 1 lens. 1 shutter speed at somewhat around 1/30 or so (can’t be sure). Aperture between around f8 and f32. But…I guess that’s really all you need!

All 3 B&W shots today. Jiyugaoka Station at night.

And the train crossing at Jiyugaoka.

Starbucks always seem packed no matter what hemisphere you’re in…

It snowed overnight. Sure it’s not much from Cleveland’s standards but, like the South in the US, Tokyo has no infrastructure to deal with the snow. So it was a pretty big deal. And once again proved that I bring snow with me wherever I go…

My favorite little store, Popeye Camera, in Jiyugaoka. They specialize in film development and also has some vintage cameras. In Japan, analog photography is becoming very very popular with young women so whenever I go there, there are usually a good number of girls there with old cameras browsing different film styles. I kind of feel out of place…but they do a good job.

I didn’t stop in this time but I’ve eaten at this ramen shop before and it’s pretty damn good. :)

In a sea of drab colors, it was nice to see her :)

Kodak may have filed for Chapter 11 but film is still alive and well in Tokyo. And Kodak also said their film division is profitable so….I guess I need to keep buying more film :)

…I wanted to post 3 photos. But I didn’t have 3 to post. So…uh…here’s a tree.
